Not even the least experienced traveller would not take his bathing suit to Hawaii. People rightly expect a variety of beaches here.

People find it difficult to choose. Everywhere there are beautiful beaches, sometimes also not crowded ones, either. Some, however, are quite dangerous, because apart from high breakers, which you can see from afar, there are also invisible currents making it difficult for swimmers to return to the beach easily.
The north coasts of the islands are rough. The best and safest beaches are in the so- called "Beach Parks": Waikiki on Oahu, Hapuna on Big Island, Kaanapali on Maui, Hulopoe on Lanai, Poipu on Kauai - only to mention some of them. But even there you should always find out about dangerous currents. If you dont fancy salt water you can find plenty of swimming pools in the numerous hotels on the islands.
Scuba diving and snorkelling are possible almost everywhere. At the coastal areas of most islands you find excellent places for diving, where you can experience the under water world with its corals and bizarre lava rocks. You can hire equipment and a divers guide. But even only with flippers and goggles you can enjoy the underwater scenery.
Best places for snorkelling: Hanauma Bay near Kailua on the island of Oahu is a naturally protected shallow bay with crystal clear water and kettle of colourful fish completely unimpressed by human beings. You can also go to a lagoon near Waikoloa in the west of Maui or to the coast of the tiny horseshoe shaped island, Molokini (between Maui and Kahoolawe).
